Oracle ODBC Driver for Rdb, Release 3.1.0.3 for Windows
Installation
This kit includes Version 3.1.0.3 of the Oracle ODBC Driver for Rdb.
This version is considerably different internally from the
version 2 Oracle ODBC Driver for Rdb software.
The ODBCTST program is no longer shipped with the ODBC driver.
This program was provided only as a way to verify that the driver
has been installed properly and that DSN connections work. The
addition of a TEST CONNECTION button on the Setup dialog box
eliminates the need for ODBCTST for that purpose. Additional
verification of correct operation can be performed with any of
the available Microsoft data access tools.
Installation
This product is installed by the Oracle Universal Installer,
a completely different technology from that used by v2
releases of the Oracle ODBC Driver for RDB.
To assist those customers who do not already have the Universal
Installer, this kit is being made available in two forms, one
without the installer included (about 1 MB in size) and one with
the installer (about 12 MB in size). Both kits are distributed
on the web in the form of self-extracting ZIP archives.
SPECIAL NOTE: The v3.1.0.0 and subsequent releases of the ODBC driver
for RDB use a newer version of the Installer than previous versions
If you do not already have v2.2.0.12 of the Oracle Universal Installer,
you will need to use the larger kit.
To install the larger kit, run the SETUP.EXE in the top level ("Disk1")
of the expanded directory tree. This will start the Installer.
To install the smaller kit, run the Oracle Universal Installer
you already have on your system. When the installer starts,
click the NEXT button on the first screen. On the second screen,
use the BROWSE button to set the "source" to the "products.jar"
file inside the "STAGE" directory. (With the larger kit, this
will already be set correctly.)
Software Errors Fixed in Oracle ODBC Driver for Rdb, Release 3.1.0.3
- TEST CONNECTION button does not fully test the connection to the
database
- DBKEY is not shown correctly after upgrading ODBC Driver for Rdb
3.1.0.2 from 2.1
New Features in Oracle ODBC Driver for Rdb, Release 3.1.0.2
- Added a TEST CONNECTION button on the ODBC Administrator setup dialog
box. This allows new connection parameters to be tested directly
without using the ODBCTST utility. Accordingly, as was done with our
ODBC Driver for Oracle9, we have stopped shipping the ODBCTST utility
with the ODBC driver and no longer support it.
